  • Minimal healing time
  • Mild discomfort
  • Removes various discoloration concerns
  • Can be used on face, chest, and neck areas and leg veins

HOW THE TREATMENT WORKS

During the laser vein removal procedure, a special hand piece delivers heat to the targeted vein. We use 3 different laser devices for vascular conditions: AdvaTX, Candela GentleYAG® laser and Magma IPL. This heat forces the blood vessel to coagulate, causing it to be slowly destroyed and absorbed by the body. The process can take up to 30-minutes to complete and the recovery time is minimal.

What Are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are broken capillaries that can show up on your face, chest, or legs. They generally look bluish or red and are thin, thread-like sized vessels which are commonly referred to as spider veins.

While they are not painful, spider veins are not aesthetically pleasing and they can be embarrassing. Depending on your particular needs, we would select a device best suited to your condition. Laser can quickly and effectively remove spider veins with minimal discomfort. You should not have sun exposure in the area to be treated pre- and post-treatment for at least 4 weeks.

Besides spider veins on your legs, we can also treat vessels that are on other areas of your body, such as the neck or chest. Additional vascular conditions such as angiomas and rosacea can also be treated with a laser device.

What Causes Spider Veins?

A number of factors may contribute to the development of spider veins and many vascular conditions.

These are the most common causes:

  • Heredity
  • Hormonal changes
  • Prolonged sitting or standing
  • Pregnancy
  • Weight fluctuation in a short period of time

Laser Treatments to Remove Spider Veins and More

Laser treatment is an effective, safe, and relatively painless method to reduce spider veins. The laser beam causes the vein to collapse and your body absorbs the damaged vessel over a 4-6 week period.

Angiomas

Cheek Veins

Rosacea

Treatable Areas

Lasers can treat a wide variety of vascular conditions including:

  • Small red dots (also known as cherry angiomas)
  • Rosacea
  • Spider veins of the legs and face
  • Broken capillaries

Our favorite device is the ADVATx – it’s the world’s most advanced solid-state yellow laser for effective treatment of vascular skin conditions as well as outstanding results for acne and a special Advabright treatment for restoring a sundamaged and wrinkled facial complexion.

What Should I Do Before My Spider Vein Treatment?

Spider vein laser treatment is non-invasive and doesn’t require much it comes to preparation. It’s recommended, however, that you limit your sun exposure prior to treatment to limit skin damage. You should also talk to your regular physician about temporarily stopping any prescribed medications that can delay the healing process. If you’re opting for treatment on your face, then it’s important to stop using certain skincare products that could affect the success of your treatment.

What Should I Expect During Spider Vein Removal?

Since spider vein removal is a non-surgical treatment, there’s no need for sedation. It’s as easy as simply showing up at our spa, and we take care of the rest. When you come in for treatment, we’ll use a powerful and precise yellow laser on individual spider veins. The laser light is attracted to the pigment in the blood vessels and breaks them down without harming your skin. Eventually, the tissue dies off and they are absorbed into the body and blood is rerouted through healthy areas. Since this laser treatment is safe, it can be used to remove spider veins anywhere on the body, including your face.

How Long Will It Take For My Skin To Heal?

After your laser treatment for spider vein removal, you may see some redness, bruising, or swelling in the treatment area. This should go away within a week or two, although each patient is different. Most patients don’t experience any discomfort and are able to resume their daily activities the day after laser treatment. However, it’s not recommended to participate in strenuous physical activities until at least 72 hours have passed.

In most cases, it’s recommended that you wear compression socks after your treatment. It’s also helpful to keep your legs elevated as much as possible to help with any swelling and to facilitate the healing process. There may be blisters or scabs on the removal area, but they should go away in just a few days.

When Will I See Results?

You may not see a difference for a few weeks after treatment because it takes time for your body to metabolize the blood vessel tissue. You may also notice brown spots on your skin after treatment, but these will disappear over the course of a few months. It’s important to stay out of the sun for at least a week and to keep your skin moisturized during the recovery process.

Frequently Asked Questions About Spider Vein Removal

How many treatments are needed?
Depending on the size of the vessel, it may take 1-3 treatments to dissolve the capillary. These will be spaced 6 weeks apart as needed.

Is spider vein removal painful?
There is a pinching sensation during the treatment. A mild sunburned sensation may existed for several hours. For legs a cooling spray is released after each pulse to ease discomfort and provide cooling to the skin.

Should I limit sun exposure for this treatment?
Yes. Treatment needs to be on your natural skin color. Additionally, you should limit sun exposure for at least 4 weeks post-treatment.

What should I expect post-treatment?
Most patients after treatment have some swelling and pinkness within the treated sites. This will diminish over a 24-48 hour period. On occasion, superficial crusting and blister formation may occur, especially in the treatment of leg veins. If this occurs, patients are asked to clean the area gently with mild soap and water twice daily and apply an antibiotic ointment.

Do I need to wear support garments for spider vein removal on my legs?
It depends. With laser treatments for spider veins, you do not have to wear support hose. We do recommend support hose should you need sclerotherapy.

What risks are associated with this treatment? Laser treatment for facial blood vessels and leg veins has been free of significant complications. There is a chance of temporary pigmentation disturbances. On occasion, post-operative crusting and blistering are noted but this is not associated with any significant increased risks of complications.

Can varicose veins be treated with a laser? The lasers we offer do not treat varicose veins.

What is Sclerotherapy? Sclerotherapy is another way of removing spider veins. Instead of a laser, a solution is injected into the vessel. It then breaks down the vein which is slowly absorbed by the body over several weeks. We recommend this for larger vessels. Small thin vessels are best treated with laser.
